The Resurrection of Icarus

The Resurrection of Icarus – limited edition print by Robert Fiszer

The Resurrection of Icarus reimagines the myth of Icarus as a story of feminine resurgence. A naked woman, arms outstretched like a crucifix, hovers above a glowing volcanic crater – ascending rather than falling. She represents a rebirth: Icarus transformed, returning not in shame but with strength, rejecting the paternal obedience that once led to destruction.

The magma below, echoing the sun’s energy now stored within the Earth, symbolizes power reclaimed from within. Her nudity signifies liberation, not exposure – a rejection of imposed shame and constraint. This is a resurrection not only of myth, but of identity.

Minimalist in composition, the work emphasizes the quiet yet profound nature of transformation. The volcano itself carries personal meaning for the artist, evoking Mount Teide in Tenerife, where his partner grew up and where they return each summer – a place of personal and symbolic gravity woven into this new mythology.

Giclée print on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper (308gsm, 100% cotton). Signed and numbered by the artist.
